Considering Pinterest for your business?

Pinterest was founded in March 2010 and has grown immensely to become the third most used social media site. According Pinterest, it is a tool for discovering the things you love, and doing those things in real life. Pinterest have enabled millions of people to plan trips, organise events, plan projects and much more. It is not just a social network to tell your friends what you have been doing but allows you to share ideas and inspire others.

It wasn’t until November last year that business pages became available. Many businesses have seen that by using Pinterest smartly has enabled them to drive traffic to their website, boost their brand image and build their business advocates. Pinterest is driving more traffic to websites and blogs than Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn or Twitter.

Pin the right images

For some Pinterest will be an effortless addition, whilst others will find it can be a little bit daunting. If you are a retailer, photographer, or a business that already have a large portfolio of creative and fun company images, it makes it a lot easy to start off. Pin images that are relevant to your current offering and even take a look at showing off your company history or how your products come to life.
What about if your business isn’t so photogenic? There are many businesses around that can be hard to associate the right images with but there is still potential to be on Pinterest. Plan your pins effectively, at first it may be a bit of trial and error to find the content that works for you. It may need you to think outside of the box and think what might be interesting for your customers.

Consider your boards

Create boards that would be important to your customers but boards that are relevant to your business. If you are a design company reveal some of your inspiration and inspire your customers, an events venue, you can pin anything from room decoration ideas, food ideas to party planning tips. Think of who your audience and how you can interest them.
If you are a dentist, you could have a before and after board, but also give them a board on your favourite smiles. A locksmith? Pin old fashion key and lock styles or ways to never loss your keys. If you search around Pinterest you can find everything from plumbers, cleaning to air conditioning units.

Add the Pin it badge

It has become common practice to link your website to your social accounts, ensure that visitors to your website know exactly where they can find you. If they like your products, they are likely to connect with your brand on a network they use on a regular basis.

Verify your Website and Analytics

Verifying your website on Pinterest is easy and is indicated by a little tick next to your website domain. By verifying your account you are then able to access their new Analytics module. You are now able to download, the number of pins from your website, re-pins within Pinterest, Pinterest users who have gone through to your website and much more.
Pinterest Analytics present the data in an easy to read format so you can figure out what is actually working for your content. For any Pinterest account, it’s important to organise your Pinterest pins in a logical manner, but most important ensure that your boards are attractive to your existing and potential followers.

Across all social media accounts we have seen that customers tend to engage more visual content. Use Pinterest to step outside of the corporate box and show a different side of your business.
